Membership Changes

Published Tue 15 Jun 2021

Our membership continues to grow, and these changes will make it easier to manage membership renewals.

The committee are about to change ALL BPC memberships to the common period 1 July to 30 June. Due to PAA/PAQ changes last year, about one third of members already have that common period.

We are also changing the cost related to membership for the 2021/2022 membership year:

  • Annual Membership will increase from $60 to $75

  • Senior (>65yo) & Junior (<18yo) membership will increase to $65

  • Non-member event rates will be +$5 compared to Member rates at all BPC venues and sessions (a member need only attend 15 sessions per year to recover the total cost of annual membership, 13 for seniors and juniors)

Where does my new membership fee go?

  • Pickleball Australia levy = $30
  • Pickleball Queensland levy = $10
  • Brisbane Pickleball Club receives $35

Each of PAA & PAQ in Australia contributes to the growth, development, and expansion of the sport of Pickleball worldwide, with a view to establishing Pickleball as a mainstream and Olympic sport. So, just over 50%  of the annual membership is contributing to the development of the sport. It also covers all relevant insurances for your health & wellbeing as a participant in our sport. The PAA and PAQ websites outline the role that each organisation plays in the overall Pickleball development strategy in Australia.

How will the BPC component of my membership fee be spent? BPC uses member fees to cover the ongoing annual costs of running the club and supporting Pickleball play. BPC uses event fees to cover court and ball costs in the first instance. Annual membership fees help cover the occasional shortfall from conducting events at multiple locations around Brisbane where attendance falls short of the cost of venue hire from time-to-time.

Our financial priorities for 2021 include transitioning to a new event management platform (OpenSports), purchasing additional equipment (ball-stop barriers) to separate courts, and building cash reserves for a potential permanent home for Pickleball in Brisbane. These are in addition to member benefits such as free coaching & tuition sessions at specified venues, along with priority access to paid coaching & tuition from BPC’s most decorated advanced players, and priority access to additional tournament play.

The key steps in the renewal process are as follows:

  • New membership increased to $75 in membership system;

  • Calculate pro-rata renewal amounts for members who do not currently have a 1st July renewal date;

  • ALL Members to receive advice of a one-off membership payment that will change the next renewal date to 1 July, 2022;

Examples:
Mary joined BPC on the 1st of January, 2021. Her current renewal date is January 1st, 2022. Mary will pay a 6-month membership fee taking her up to the end of June 2022 and then her next membership renewal will be 1st July, 2022

Fiona joined BPC on the 1st of October, 2020. Her current renewal date is 1st, October, 2021. Mary will pay a 9-month membership fee taking her up to the end of June 2022 and then her next membership renewal will be 1st July, 2022

John joined BPC in June 2019. His current membership renewal date is June, 2021. John will pay an annual renewal of $75, and his new renewal date will also be the 1st day of July, 2022
